Although the small
size of this clutch, which contained only six fertile eggs and five live
hatchlings, was the biggest disappointment of the year, it is hard to stay
disappointed for too long after getting fine looking babies like these.
This was Hershey's first clutch, and her predecessor in this project,
Lemongirl, went on to produce nice large clutches after an initial small one
in 1999.
I am especially pleased with the appearance of this
portrait, which is one of the more unusual for me visually speaking. I
had no idea what I was going to do with this clutch portrait when I sat
down, and after a few hours of experimentation, the artwork above emerged.
I think it captures the feeling of a full moon rising, as well as the
symbolic shape of an egg.
